PURE STOCK / V-8 THUNDER STOCK RULES
(AMENDED JANUARY 2010)

American-made, rear wheel drives only. After market factory style 24 gauge steel bodies okay. 1970 and thereafter models only. No foreign, convertibles, trucks, four wheel drive or front wheel drive cars allowed. Weight 3300 lbs. at any time with driver.

BODY/ FRAME
Must remain complete stock for make and model. Minimum wheelbase of 104” centerline of front wheels to centerline of rear wheels (cannot alter). Both sides must be the same. NO CHOPPING, SHORTENING OR CHANELLING. Doors must be welded shut. No rub or push bars on the outside of the car. All vehicles must have windshield bars welded vertically directly in front of the driver. All glass, plastic grills, light emblems, dash, lights, seats and other possible hazards must be removed. NO FRONT OR REAR BUMPER reinforcement with pipe larger than 1 ¾ inch by .095 thickness. All sheet metal, roof height, firewalls, floor pans and body mounts must remain stock location and dimensions. Front fender wells may be removed. Hood and trunk lids may be gutted. Truck from center of rear housing back may be gutted for fuel cell. Trunk and fuel cell area must be tightly sealed from the driver compartment. No Decking allowed. Rear spoiler, from deck height to top of spoiler, not to exceed 5” at any angle. Window net must unhook from the top. Battery must be self contained and securely mounted in battery tray. May have hole in hood for air cleaner (must be boxed in all four sides). No Two way Radios!

SUSPENSION
Steering components must be stock or quick release only. No Quick Steer. Stock type springs front and rear (coil or leaf). Stock springs must be same height, coil for coil and same diameter. Springs must have pig- tail at both ends. No racing springs! Shocks must be mounted in original position. One shock per wheel. No coil-overs. No racing shocks.

Any stock replacement shocks, steel body only, no extentions, non take-apart, non revalaveable in its stock location, with the exception of the Doesteck 3 way adjustable stock or the equivalent thereof in another brand name.

There is a Shock Claimer Rule for the Pure Stock Division which allows a driver/car owner finishing in the top three to purchase any shock in question off of a car finishing in front of them for $54 per shock. This must be done by notifying the Tech Man immediately following the feature event in Tech. The funds must be in the form of cash or certified funds. If the car that was protested will not sell the shock in question then he will be DQ'ed and lose points and money for that night.
No racing shocks! Must retain stock sway bar,no heating or tweaking. Upper and lower control arms must remain stock with stock ball joint. Stock power steering pumps only.

ROLL CAGE
Must have full roll cage with four (4) points 1-3/4 inch by .095 welded to frame. Driver side door must have at least four (4) bars, (1/8 inch steel plate highly recommended). Passenger door must have at least three (3) bars or (X) in. Must have support cross bar behind the driver for proper positioning of the seat belt harness. Front and rear down bars Allowed. NO BLACK IRON OR FENCE TUBING. Racing aluminum seat only! Must be mounted to cage. Five point racing harness must be attached to roll cage.

TRANSMISSION
OEM automatic or completely stock standard. Must have all forward gears. Hydraulic master and slave cylinder for clutch OK. No 10-1/2” corvette or smaller diameter. No 2-speed power glides. Stock flywheel. No aluminum flywheels. No lightening. No high performance or special order parts. No ram couplers or direct drive. No valves or pedals. No stall converters. All gears must be in working order. Torque converters must be OEM type for transmission used and in working order.

REAR END
OEM type only. May be locked. No floaters or quick changes. No shortening or lengthening of upper or lower control arms.

DRIVE SHAFT
Stock Drive Shafts ONLY. Drive shaft hoops are required within 12” of front U-Joint. No aluminum drive shafts. All Drive shafts must be painted white.

BRAKES
All 4 brakes must be in working order. No brake adjusters of any kind. Stock OEM calipers only.(calipers must be same size). No aftermarket brake pedals.

FUEL
Pump or racing fuel OK. No additives. Fuel cells are required with roll over valve in 18-gauge can. Must be securely mounted with at least two 2” x 1/8” steel straps. No electric fuel pumps.

CARBURETORS
Stock carburetors; Stock #1850 or 4412 500 cfm only (# must be on carburetor). Stock Quadrajet allowed. NO MODIFICATIONS WHATSOEVER.

WEIGHT
All weight must be securely mounted with (2) ½ inch bolts per 50 lbs., weight must be painted white with car number.

ENGINES
Engine must remain in stock location.
Headers allowed. No aluminum intakes, except for stock OEM 305’s. No high performance parts. Any hydraulic cam with max valve lift of .450" allowed. Compression 150 lbs. max and must pull 17 lb. Vacuum. Racing oil pans are permitted. Aftermarket pulleys allowed.

HEADS
Use of pollylock rocker arm adjusting nuts for stock size rocker arms studs permitted. (steel nuts with locking allen set screw)

Stud Girdles are also permitted.

Reason for rule change:

Reduce maintenance costs and increase longevity of valve train. Reduce engine damage from a rocker arm loosening, causing push rod failure and consequential catastrophic engine damage.


Any Open Chamber Stock Heads (minimum 72cc) NO CLOSED CHAMBER. Stock Valves 1.94 intake 1.50 exhaust. No Polly lock or roller rockers allowed. No Vortec or bowtie heads allowed. No porting – No polishing – No angle cutting.

RODS
Stock Production Rods only 5.7 NO EXCEPTIONS!

CRANK SHAFT
Stock cast cranks ONLY.

IGNITION
OEM or Single point distributor allowed. HEI distributors allowed. DUI stock 4 prong module allowed. No MSD boxes or Rev limiters allowed.

WHEELS/TIRES
Must have 5/8 wheel studs with 1 in. lug nuts. Hoosier 265-60 tire. Right front Hoosier 265 or 285. Tires may be purchased from track or approved by track officials.

ENGINE CLAIM RULE
$2,000 to claim engine. $1,900 for engine with $100 going to the track. Driver being claimed has the option to sell for $1,500 or swap engines for $500. $100 goes to the track. First time driver refuses to sell,loses points and money for night and two week suspension and right to claim engine rest of the year. Track has option to buy engine for $2,000. Claim does not include exhaust manifolds, carburetors, distributors, power steering pump, motor mounts and starter.

Anything not mentioned must remain stock.
